Shrine etiquette primer|Torii, temizuya, hall, and leaving well

Vermilion torii and an empty gravel path in morning mist

Many visit for New Year or everyday wishes without knowing the basics. A clear sequence makes the visit feel steadier.

  • Torii: bow once, walk to the side (center is the kami’s path)
  • Temizuya: cleanse before prayer
  • Main hall: usually two bows, two claps, one bow
  • Grounds: keep voices low; respect no-photo zones

Afterwards, draw Water Omikuji for wealth, love, or health to read your present state.
